The National Endowment for the Humanities awarded it largest grant in a newly announced set of funds to a new feature-length documentary called The Colfax Massacre. Louisiana Public Broadcasting received a grant of $700,343 for the film from NEH. The film, according to the NEH, examines “Reconstruction-era violence between southern whites and African Americans and its legal and social legacy.” The mass killing of approximately 150 African Americans in Colfax, Louisiana, was one of the worst eruptions of racial violence during reconstruction.
