This week I am releasing Episode 2 of the Civil War Reconstruction Podcast. This episode looks at why students of the Civil War will understand that conflict much better if they learn more about Reconstruction. In some ways Reconstruction marked a hopeful period in American history. Slavery was ended, Citizenship was no longer tied to race. Color bars to voting were eliminated. The Union goals of the Civil War were achieved and even expanded on. Unfortunately, the Reconstruction Era also saw the continuance of the violence that had gripped the country during the war. Murder was routinely employed for political ends and to reestablish racial control. Please use the player below to listen to this new episode.
