CBS Sunday Morning has a nice travel piece visiting the sites of Harriet Tubman’s life in slavery in Maryland and freedom in Auburn, N.Y. CBS is taken to the sites by Kate Clifford Larson. It is a very good clip to watch. If you see the movie, I hope you get the chance to visit the Auburn and the Eastern Shore National Park Service sites.
My one problem with the piece is it claims that she had a “Forrest Gump” like propensity to wind up on the historic stage. Sorry, but she did not stumble on history, she made it!

I enjoyed this expose on Harriet Tubman’s life. However, I was not pleases to hear the reporter compare Harriet Tubman to the aloof and on the spectrum fictional character, Forest Gump. It was mocking, irreverent and rude. Why would she choose to compare a true life hero who suffered at the hands of racism, bigotry, greed, hatred and risked her life for others time and time again AND was a military spy and lead a troop of soldiers into battle- how could an intelligent person even think of comparing her qualities to Forest Gump? That truly stopped me in my tracks. I couldn’t believe she said it. She should apologize and take it iut of the clip. I don’t find Harriet Tubman’s life a joking matter. It is extraordinary and and empowering!
I agree that it was an odd choice of words. The travel piece itself is very good, but the comparison to Forrest Gump is very inappropriate.
