Historians at the Movies Podcast has on Kevin Levine, Waitman Beorn, and Rich Condon to discuss the Ted Turner 1993 film Gettysburg. Most of my readers have seen the film and viewers tend to either dismiss it as “Lost Cause” propaganda or hail it THE GREATEST WAR FILM EVER MADE. I tend to hold a different view and I was glad to see that the historians on this panel were not in either of the two main camps. None of them said what my wife told me after she viewed it after watching the film that it was “good actors acting badly.”
I have been reading what Kevin Levin and Rich Condon have been writing about the Civil War for a number of years now and it was good to hear them discussing the film together.
