Rally at Gettysburg to Support the National Parks on June 16 at 4PM

A large number of us will hold a rally at Gettysburg in support of the National Park Service, the Rangers, and the staff of the parks. If you want to support the parks, please come Kevin Levin is in the lead on this and here is what he says:

I wanted to update all of you on the planned rally in support of the National Park Service, which will take place on Monday, June 16 from 4-6:30PM at the Eternal Light Peace Memorial.

Thanks to Gettysburg Rising, all of the necessary permits have been secured. I can’t tell you how much I appreciate their efforts in helping me make this happen.

I want to thank all of you, who have indicated your plan to participate and even to those of you who can’t attend, but have sent along kind words of support.

Remember that you can organize a rally at any NPS site as long as you apply for the proper permit.

I assume that most of you know where the Eternal Light Peace Memorial (No. 2 on the map) is located. The easiest way to get there from town is to drive northwest on the Mummasburg Road, which goes past the observation tower and through Oak Ridge. Make a right on Buford Avenue and you have arrived. Very easy.

A couple logistical things to keep in mind for those of you who plan on attending. Please see the map below. We need to stay within the designated First Amendment area, which is located to the left of the sidewalk as you walk toward the memorial. We need to maintain a distance of 10 feet from all sidewalks and walkways.

The parking lot in front of the memorial is reserved for visitors, but you should be able to find parking along Buford and Confederate avenue. Please make sure that all four wheels are on the street.

This rally is in support of the NPS, so let’s not make their job any more challenging than it already is.

I encourage all of you to bring your rested vocal chords, signs, and a positive attitude. There may be an opportunity for a few of you to speak, though this will depend on the size of the crowd. I will be sharing a few words as will historian Scott Hancock, who teaches at Gettysburg College.

As I’ve said before, you can use this opportunity to focus on any number of threats that the NPS is currently facing. I am going to focus on the ongoing attempt to censor and erase historical content and interpretation at NPS sites.

The response thus far has been overwhelming. I hope this is reflected in the size and enthusiasm of the crowd that gathers in just over two weeks.

I look forward to seeing you in Gettysburg…

-Kevin Levin

Thanks to Kevin for putting this all together!

I have been in the hospital four times in the last five months, and I will be there. Will you?
