A couple of weeks ago I was part of a panel discussion put on by Emerging Civil War on the 14th Amendment. It was one of the most enduring outcomes of the Civil War and it is cited every day by courts throughout the country. It recently occupied headline space with the current president’s assault on “Birthright Citizenship” which comes out of the 14th amendment. Here is the description of the program from Emerging Civil War:
The 14th Amendment, ratified in July 1868, is suddenly “current events” again thanks to discussions about birthright citizenship. Explore the history and legacy of the 14th Amendment with a special panel discussion presented by Emerging Civil War. Moderator Chris Mackowski will be joined by panelists
Dr. Cecily Nelson Zander, ECW Chief Historian
Dr. Evan Rothera, University of Arkansas–Fort Worth
