The Second Day of Impeachment Testimony: Did the President Conspire to Use Force to Evict Stanton?

On April 1, 1868 the  Impeachment Trial of Andrew Johnson was dominated by testimony about whether the president’s designee as acting War Secretary tried to take over the War Department offices by force to evict Secretary of War Erwin Stanton. General Lorenzo Thomas was the alleged conspirator with the president.

I won’t give a blow by blow of the second day of testimony in the Impeachment Trial of President Johnson, but I will offer some coverage from the April 2, 1868 New York Times.
