Chris Mackowski, the founder of Emerging Civil War, interviewed Kevin Levin recently on Levin’s new book on Robert Gould Shaw, the commander of the Black 54th Massachusetts Regiment. This is a very interesting discussion of Levin’s intense study of the first Black regiment from the North to fight in the Civil War. His new book has caused at least two academics to wonder if Levin “hates Robert Gould Shaw.”
