“A fixed predetermination on the part of…the white people…to resist…impartial suffrage” Louisiana 1868

When the Louisiana legislature investigated racial terrorism in 1868 during the elections that year, it issued a detailed report on what it found. The first report covered incidents through the beginning of September.  It also issued a Supplemental Report. This is the Supplemental Report of the Joint Committee that examined Louisiana’s political violence from September 1868 to December 1868. Here are some excerpts:
