Albert Castel Award Goes to Tullahoma: The Forgotten Campaign that Changed the Course of the Civil War, June 23-July 4, 1863

David Powell and Eric Wittenberg were honored last week with the 2022 Albert Castel Book Award for their campaign study Tullahoma: The Forgotten Campaign that Changed the Course of the Civil War, June 23-July 4, 1863. The book is a history of the highly successful campaign by Union Major General William Rosecrans characterized by rapid movements in Tennessee that led to the capture of Chattanooga. Because it took place during the same time frame as the Gettysburg Campaign and Ulysses S. Grant’s victory at Vicksburg, Tullahoma is often relegated to a side-note on the history of this period.

Powell and Wittenberg are extremely well-regarded military historians and their book on Tullahoma has won wide-spread praise.
