Over the last two years 25% of our National Park staff, including Rangers and support staff, have been cut throughout the nation at our National Parks. This week is a Week of Action when you can support the important historic preservation and interpretation work of the highly skilled staff at our National Historic Sites, National Battlefields, and other sites administered by the National Park Service.
Please call both your Senators and your Congressperson to express your support for the parks and to demand that Congress prevent to defunding of these treasures. You can use this web site to identify your three people in Congress as well as to learn their phone numbers. Here are some tips from the Land and Water Conservation Fund:
-
Introduce yourself, where you are from in the district/state, why you are calling.
-
Mention your personal connection to the National Parks by telling them about how you use the parks for recreation and learning. If you have kids or grandkids, let them know how important these sites are to our future generations.
-
Ask your Member of Congress and Senators to support funding in the coming year for the National Parks and to oppose the removal of exhibits and signs that have to do with slavery, indigenous history, and labor history.
- Thank the person you are speaking to for their time and for passing on your concerns.
