Historic Brattonsville Opening Reconstruction Era General Store to Tell Story of a Murder

Historic Brattonsville in York County, South Carolina is restoring a general store that was the scene of an inquest into the killing of James Williams, a veteran of the United States Colored Troops soldier after the war. York County was the scene of many acts of violence by the Ku Klux Klan during the first Grant Administration. In 1871, with the new weapon of the Ku Klux Klan Act, President Grant ordered a crackdown on the terrorism in the region. The video below explains the project.
