Irish Brigade Association Formed January 1869

The Irish Brigade Association reflected the cohesiveness of the Irish Brigade itself. The core New York regiments of the Irish Brigade had been formed specifically to be part of this brigade. This legal report notes the association’s incorporation.

The formation of veterans associations was a major feature of the Reconstruction Era. These groups would preserve the memory of their deeds, erect monuments, and pressure the government to create a social welfare system for the assistance of disabled veterans.
