Knights of the White Camelia and the Election of 1868 in Lousiana

I found an interesting article on one of the less well-known white supremacist terrorist organizations, the Knights of the White Camelia. This group was based in Louisiana with affiliates in contiguous states.

The Knights of the White Camelia was already establishing itself as Louisiana’a premier white terrorist group when the Ku Klux Klan began its rapid spread throughout the former Confederacy. The Knights of the White Camelia commanded the allegiance of many conservatives and helped the Democrats secure electoral victories through the intimidation of Black voters.
