I have been posting about the different Ulysses S. Grant Bicentennial events recently and decided to create a master list of those I have publicized. Because some may cancel due to COVID, I suggest calling before you travel a long distance to any of them. If you know of other events, let us know in the comments. Also, if you attend and event you are welcome to tell us about it.
District of Columbia
There will be a morning commemoration of the Bicentennial on April 26 at the Grant Monument opposite the Capitol in Washington, D.C.
Illinois
The Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield has a program exploring Grant’s life on April 27.
The Illinois State Museum in Springfield has an April 26th virtual presentation on Ulysses S. Grant & Race. The program examines Grant’s changing views on race and citizenship. You must register to access it.
The Grant Museum in Galena, Ill. has three days of programming scheduled beginning April 30. Events include free admission to the site over the weekend.
Missouri
Grant’s home during the late 1850s near St. Louis will observe his birthday with events beginning on April 23, but the major program is on April 27th.
New York
Grant’s Tomb will celebrate on his birthday on April 27th on Manhattan.
Saratoga Springs has a program honoring Grant on April 23.
Grant Cottage, where Grant finished his memoirs and passed away, will celebrate his birthday with a ceremony on April 27. The site is located north of Saratoga.
Ohio
Here are events organized in several smaller towns in Ohio near where Grant was born on April 27, 1822. These include events in the place where he lived as a child.
There will be a program on Grant’s life in Chillicothe, Ohio on April 27th.
Drive the Land of Grant Trail in Ohio to see more than a dozen sites linked to the early life of Grant.
Virginia
There will be two days of Grant programing in Culpeper, Va. On April 23 and 24.
City Point, near Petersburg, has programs marking Grant’s Bicentennial at his old Headquarters on April 30.
