Podcast: How Robert Gould Shaw’s Missing Ft. Wagner Sword Was Found and Identified

When Robert Gould Shaw led the 54th Massachusetts into battle at Fort Wagner outside of Charleston he carried a brand new sword given to him by his family. That sword was lost when Shaw was killed in the assault, depicted in the movie Glory. This podcast tells how the Shaw family and the Massachusetts Historical Society identified both the Fort Wagner sword and a sword Shaw carried at Antietam.

The illustration depicts the death of Shaw as the 54th Mass. mounts the walls of Battery Wagner.
