The podcast Decoder Ring has an interesting and troubling story about the attempt to create a video game about the Underground Railroad. This was not a one-off. The team that created The Oregon Trail back in the early days of computer gaming produced this game. While it was groundbreaking in its depiction of the human rights abuses in American history before the Civil War, it led to claims that it was traumatizing children who played it.
