Rachel Powell, Far-Right Activist in Gettysburg Occupation, Reports to Jail for January 6th Conviction

Rachel Powell, who was a leader in the far-right occupation of Gettysburg on July 4, 2020, has reported to jail this week to finish her sentence of nearly five years in jail for her role in the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol. Judge Royce C. Lamberth of U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia had sentenced Ms. Powell to 57 months in prison and 36 months of supervised release. She was convicted on all nine charges filed against her.

On January 6 Powell was seen urging on the mob to storm the Capitol through her bull horn, then taking an ax to break the windows of the building. She was heard telling the rioters that they should; “probably coordinate together if you’re going to take the building.” An affidavit filed by an FBI agent says that in video of the assault, Powell “is clearly seen speaking though a bullhorn and giving very detailed instructions about the layout of the Capitol building” to those who had broken in. She took to social media several days later to tell her followers that “They didn’t open the gates. The people trampled them. It was war.”

Powell gave an interview to CNN this week in which she says she still has faith in former-President Donald Trump. She told the reporter that she did not have any regrets about going to the insurrection, saying; “How often does a president ask you to come to a rally?” She says that she is being unfairly prosecuted, saying; “I don’t deserve this and my children don’t deserve this.” She says that January 6 was a set-up by the authorities to suppress Trump supporters, although she admits she has no evidence of this.

While Powell claims that she was set up by the police, there are videos of her in her pink hat using a battering ran to pierce the security at the Capitol and she is seen breaking a window with an ax to get insurrectionists inside the Capitol. There are also videos of her, in a fur coat, attacking police, even though other rioters had backed off. In spite of the attacks on property and police by her, Powell says; “Police never actually told me to go away.” Powell feels that she will be vindicated. She says; “Trump has said he will pardon us.” She points to a picture of her family with Donald Trump.

Powell had joined Nazis and Ku Klux Klan members, among others, at Gettysburg in 2020 in an armed occupation of the National Military Park there.

  1. Filth like her deserve to rot. She’s a disgrace. And just another reason why the former President NEVER BE RE ELECTED. He’s only seeking office to save his giant rump and Miss Rachel here deserves to serve her ENTIRE sentence. People that Hate America are the worst.

  3. Credibility issue here with two identical comments by “supposedly” two different people, which reflects on the entire site. Maybe it’s AI and Patrick Young has no control of posted comments.

    1. Nor do I know if you are really Louis Mc. Out of 1,700 comments submitted by readers, I have only barred 31 from appearing.

    2. The comments can be easily enough disregarded. Why would you say such is a compromise of credibility to the Admin?

He does a fantastic job on this page.
