“The Impeachers: The Trial of Andrew Johnson and the Dream of a Just Nation” By Brenda Wineapple Makes the NY Times’s Notable Books of 2019 List

The New York Times has released its prestigious list of the “100 Notable Books” of 2019 and several Reconstruction Era-related books are on the list. First up is The Impeachers: The Trial of Andrew Johnson and the Dream of a Just Nation By BRENDA WINEAPPLE. $32.00. Random House. You can read my review here.

Here is what the Times says:

“With impeachment on many people’s minds at the present moment, Wineapple offers a timely glimpse of the first impeachment of an American president, detailing all the maneuvering and manipulating that went into the failed effort to remove Andrew Johnson from the White House.”

Over the next few days, I will post the other Reconstruction books that made the list.
