The Impeachment Verdict Will Be Known Immediately Throughout the Land Via Telegraph-May 11, 1868

The miracle of the telegraph would make known the Senate’s verdict in the Impeachment Trial of Andrew Johnson instantaneously. Travelling at the speed of lightning, the wires would carry news of whether the president was to be removed to cities around the country. New York would learn the outcome almost as quickly as Washingtonians.
