“Threats Against Teachers of Colored Schools” by the Klan Tennessee March 1868

Freedmen’s schools were an early and frequent target of the Ku Klux Klan. This article reports that the teachers of black children were being expelled from the Klan Heartland in Middle Tennessee.

While this article appeared in a Texas paper, it reprints an article from a Nashville paper and the KKK operations against freedmen’s schools referred to are in Maury County, Tenn. Flakes Bulletin was a moderate Republican paper published in Galveston by a German immigrant.
