Tour of University of Texas Racial Geography, Emancipation, and The Lost Cause

The University of Texas now has a Racial Geography Tour of the famous campus in Austin. The tour can be explored in person or virtually online. The tour starts on Juneteenth 1865 when slaves in Texas found out that they were free. 30% of the population of Austin was Black during Reconstruction, but they were only allowed on campus as low-paid workers. It follows the university’s racial history up through desegregation.
