Trial Set for Civil War Reenactor Accused of Planting Cedar Creek Pipe Bomb

The discovery of a pipe bomb at a reenactment of the Civil War Battle of Cedar Creek in October 2017 was initially blamed on “Antifa,” but by 2020 investigators believed that Civil War reenactor Gerald Leonard Drake was actually behind the bomb and other threats. This year, in October, Drake was arrested and charged.

The case is on the docket for a jury trial in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Virginia beginning on July 10, 2023. The trial had been expected to begin next month, but the defense had requested more time to prepare its case. Drake is being held without bail at the Central Virginia Regional Jail.

There is no evidence that Drake was in any way connected to “Antifa.” For those not familiar, “Antifa” is a frequent bug-a-bear of the far right alleged to be a massive Leftist terrorist organization. While few outside of the right have even heard of “Antifa,” it is well-known to viewers of One America News and other extremist sources.
